# privacy, plans & keys

> how your data is handled, what the plans cost, how to get help, and the optional bring-your-own-keys setup.

the practical stuff: your privacy, what Folk costs, how to reach a human, and
an optional power-user setting.

## your privacy

Folk is built so your private life stays private:

- **we don't train on your data.** your conversations and memory are yours.
- **your own space.** Folk runs in an isolated environment dedicated to your
account. it's not sharing a brain with other people.
- **you stay in control.** Folk asks before doing anything with real-world
consequences, and you can clear your [memory](/docs/memory) anytime.

for the full legal version, see the [privacy policy](https://folk.com/privacy)
and [terms](https://folk.com/terms).

### the reset buttons

everything destructive lives in one place: **dashboard → settings → privacy**.

  - erase folk's memory: wipes every memory and your chat history. keeps your account, plan, and connected apps.
  - reset folk's computer: wipes the cloud computer and starts it fresh. your memory stays.
  - delete your account: removes the whole thing. no email-us-to-cancel nonsense.

you can also wipe memory from chat by texting **`CLEARMEMORY`** (in caps -
that's deliberate, so it can't happen by accident).

## plans

  - free, $0: free forever, no card. chat within a monthly fair-use limit.
  - pro, $20/mo: the everyday plan. the smartest models, folk working in the background, 60 call minutes a month.
  - max, $100/mo: the best models plus your pick of them, more headroom, 150 call minutes a month.

**paying yearly gets you two months free**, $192/year for Pro, $960/year for
Max. students and folks in a lot of countries get regional pricing at $5/mo Pro
and $25/mo Max.

the [pricing page](https://folk.com/pricing) has the full plan-by-plan
breakdown of what's included.

### trials

- **monthly plans have no trial**, the free tier is the trial, and it doesn't
  expire.
- **yearly plans start with a 7-day free trial.** card upfront, nothing charged
until it ends, and Folk texts you a reminder before it does.
- **referred friends get a 7-day Pro trial on monthly**, the only way to get
  one. see [invite friends](/docs/referrals).
- **installing a [folkway](/docs/folkways) on the free tier** unlocks 7 days of
paid-style background automations, once per account.

manage or cancel your plan anytime from billing in your
[dashboard](https://folk.com).

### folk's own model

Pro and Max can opt into **Folk One**, Folk's own model, from the banner in
your dashboard. it's a beta and it's trained to sound like Folk rather than
like a generic assistant. flip it off any time and you're back on the standard
models.

## bring your own keys (optional)

this one's for power users and you can completely ignore it otherwise.

if you have your own API keys for providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, or others,
you can plug them into Folk so your usage runs on your own accounts. two ways:

- **in the dashboard**: settings → your keys, where they're stored encrypted.
- **in the chat**: tell Folk and hand it the key; it'll save it securely.

most people never need this. Folk works great out of the box. BYOK is just
there if you specifically want to use your own provider accounts.

## getting help

stuck on something? just tell Folk in the chat, "something's broken", "i need
help with my billing". it'll ask if you want it to reach the folk team, and if
you say yes it files the ticket for you.

when a human replies, **the reply comes back in the same chat**. no support
portal, no separate inbox to check.
