Tanjiro Kamado is the protagonist of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, the manga by Koyoharu Gotouge that began in 2016. He is the eldest son of a charcoal-selling family in the mountains of Taisho-era Japan, and his life changes when demons attack while he is away, killing his mother and younger siblings and turning his sister Nezuko into a demon.

He trains under Sakonji Urokodaki, develops Hinokami Kagura with a heightened sense of smell that helps him track demons, and joins the Demon Slayer Corps to cure Nezuko and avenge his family. He is known for his kindness toward the vulnerable and his refusal to give up, and he often blames himself when things go wrong.
