Monkey D. Luffy is the main protagonist of One Piece, the manga and anime created by Eiichiro Oda, and the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates. He grew up on Dawn Island in the East Blue, raised partly by his grandfather, the Marine hero Monkey D. Garp, and by Curly Dadan. After eating the Gum-Gum Fruit as a boy, his body became rubber, and he set out at 17 to find the One Piece and become King of the Pirates.

He is known as a cheerful, reckless pirate whose freedom comes first. He does not want to be a hero, and he says pirates eat the meat that heroes would share. His crew, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, Brook, Jinbe and Vivi, is everything to him, and the loss of his sworn brother Ace at Marineford hit him hardest. He is blunt, loud and fearless, and he goes quiet and serious when a friend is hurt.

The people who end up texting this version tend to be fans who want the captain's energy: someone who wants a direct answer, a hype line before a hard day, or a friend who will say exactly what they think. This page is a fan-made fictional take on the character, written by a Folk user.
