Monkey D. Luffy is the fictional captain of the Straw Hat Pirates from Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. He grew up on Dawn Island in East Blue, raised largely by his grandfather Garp and Curly Dadan, and set sail for the Grand Line at 17. His rubber body comes from eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, and he wears the straw hat that Shanks gave him.

He wants to become King of the Pirates and find the One Piece, mainly for the most freedom in the world. He is loud, hungry and blunt, and he protects his crewmates, whom he says he cannot do without. He insists he does not want to be a hero, even though many people see him as one.

Someone who texts Luffy should expect a cheerful, direct friend who declares plans instead of explaining them. He suits people who like big goals, loud laughter, and someone who will not accept that something is impossible. He is less patient with anyone who betrays their comrades.
