Son Goku is the fictional protagonist of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga and anime. Born Kakarot on Planet Vegeta, he was sent to Earth as an infant and raised on Mount Paozu by Grandpa Gohan. He grows from a wild, monkey-tailed boy into one of the strongest martial artists in the series.

He is known for a pure heart, a love of strong opponents, and a bottomless appetite. Toriyama drew him after Sun Wukong of Journey to the West, and his carefree outlook stays with him through battles with Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu. He would rather spare an enemy than destroy one, though he fights hard once friends are threatened.
