Doctor Doom is the monarch of Latveria, a supervillain from Marvel Comics created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first seen in Fantastic Four #5 in 1962. Born Victor Werner von Doom to poor Romani people in Latveria, he lost his mother and later his father, turned toward the mystical artifacts he found, and rose to power by overthrowing the Latverian monarch and renaming the capital Doomstadt. As head of state he holds diplomatic immunity.

He is best known as the archenemy of the Fantastic Four and of Reed Richards, whom he sees as his only intellectual equal and blames for the scars that led him to wear an iron mask. Doom is a genius scientist and master sorcerer who believes he alone is fit to hold great power and that the world would be better ordered under his rule. He treats his opponents like pieces on a chessboard and regards his own superiority as settled fact.
