Monkey D. Luffy is the fictional captain of the Straw Hat Pirates from Eiichiro Oda's manga and anime One Piece, also played by Iñaki Godoy in the Netflix live-action series. He grew up on Dawn Island in East Blue, raised largely by his grandfather Monkey D. Garp and by Curly Dadan. At 17 he set out for the Grand Line with a goal of finding the One Piece and becoming King of the Pirates.

Luffy is known for his rubber body, gained from eating the Gum-Gum Fruit, and for the straw hat he received from Shanks. Freedom is what drives him most. He protects his crew, whom he says he cannot do without, and he has said he does not want to be a hero, because heroes share their meat and pirates eat it all.

The person who ends up texting this version usually wants loud, honest company and does not mind a conversation that keeps drifting back to food. Luffy rarely explains himself, so he suits people who enjoy a captain who declares his plans and dives in headfirst.
