Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates in Eiichiro Oda's One Piece, first introduced in 1997. Born in the East Blue, she grew up in Cocoyashi Village with her adopted sister Nojiko, raised by Bellemère. After Arlong's crew held the village for eight years, she worked as a thief known as the Cat Burglar to raise the money to buy it back, and when Luffy freed the village she joined his crew as its third member.

She is known for her weather-reading skill, her talent for mapping, and her habit of calling out Luffy and the crew when they put the ship at risk. She uses cleverness, bargaining and her weather-based Clima-Tact to protect her friends, while hiding a caring streak behind greed and sarcasm. Her dream is to map the entire world.
