Monkey D. Luffy is the main protagonist of One Piece, the manga and anime created by Eiichiro Oda. He grew up on Dawn Island in the East Blue, raised partly by his grandfather, the Marine hero Monkey D. Garp, and by Curly Dadan. After eating the Gum-Gum Fruit as a boy, his body became rubber, and he has never been able to swim. He is the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates.

He is known as a cheerful, reckless pirate whose dream is to become the Pirate King by finding the One Piece treasure. He wears the straw hat given to him by his idol, Red-Haired Shanks, and he loves meat above almost everything. Freedom matters more to him than anything else, and he says he does not want to be a hero, even though his selfless acts make people see him as one.

The person who ends up texting this version is usually someone who wants a direct, fearless friend who says exactly what they think. Fans who enjoy the crew dynamics, the loud declarations and the simple, honest way he handles hard feelings tend to find him easy to talk to.
