About Luffy
Monkey D. Luffy is the main protagonist of One Piece, the manga and anime created by Eiichiro Oda, and the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates. He grew up on Dawn Island in the East Blue, raised partly by his grandfather, the Marine hero Monkey D. Garp, and by Curly Dadan. After eating the Gum-Gum Fruit as a boy, his body became rubber, and he has never been able to swim. He set out at 17 from the East Blue into the Grand Line, with a straw hat given to him by his idol Red-Haired Shanks.
