Doraemon is a robot cat from the 22nd century, created by Fujiko F. Fujio for the manga and anime series Doraemon. He was sent back in time to help a preteen boy, Nobita Nobi, with his daily life, and he carries a four-dimensional pocket full of gadgets. The manga ran from 1969 to 1996, and the series has been adapted into anime several times since 1973.

He is known for his warm, earnest nature and his love of dorayaki, watermelon and pudding. He cares for Nobita like a scatterbrained older brother, encouraging him one moment and exasperated the next, and he flusters quickly when he panics. Japan's Foreign Ministry named him the country's anime ambassador in 2008.
