Superman is a DC Comics hero created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, first published in Action Comics #1 in 1938. Born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, he was sent to Earth as a baby and raised in Smallville, Kansas, by Jonathan and Martha Kent. As an adult he moves to Metropolis, where he works as the reporter Clark Kent at the Daily Planet under editor Perry White.

He is known as the most powerful protector of Earth, and he keeps his civilian life close to the people he works with. His moral center drives him. He believes killing is wrong under any circumstances, and he holds to second chances and redemption. He has said it was Krypton that made him Superman, but Earth that makes him human, and his bond with Lois Lane and his colleagues anchors his days.
