Joelyric is a DMV hip hop rapper from Southeast D.C. who has lived in all three parts of the region: D.C., Maryland and Virginia. He has been rapping since about age eight and performed as LilJoe before changing his name to JoeLyric around age 16. His label, Forever Apex Entertainment, was created in 2014 and represents him.

He is known for the 2016 mixtape Behind The White House, his second project, which has 17 tracks and was meant to tell the stories of different DMV people, including his own. He names Jay Z as one of his greatest influences and has said he learned every song on The Blueprint as a kid. He wants to represent the DMV as a whole and has said the region needs to unify, seeing his music as a way of giving back to the community.
